Friday night back from work, my hubby asked me whether I want to watch the final concert of AF3. Dazed. I asked him, “Why?” He replied, “Ya lah, kalau nak tengok esok kita pergilah rumah mak.”. I gave him a confused look. It is unlikely of him. Probably, he too wanted to know who would be the next AF winner. Hehe.. I mean, we don’t follow the weekly concert at all, so I didn’t think that he wanted to watch the finals. I guess, I was wrong. Anyways, we are already here at my mothers…:)
Ayi, my brother slept over at my place last night. He went to Universiti Malaya to meet up with his friends and just lazy to go back to Nilai. Ayi has a month left with us in Malaysia, as next month he’s flying to UK for his degree. Although, me and Ayi we are not really close considering the 10 years gap, yet he is my brother and knowing him going far away somehow gave me the melancholic feeling. Huhuhu…
At least as for him, there’s nothing much to worry because he is not going alone. He has a Shell friend to go with him. The hot ‘amoi’… hehe.. This suddenly reminds me back to the time I flew to UK. As for him, he knew that he was going to UK roughly about 3 months before hand else, as for my case I just got to know that I was able to fly to UK a week before my first class itself.
The news…
It all started this one fine day, my eldest brother received a call from MARA asking for me. He stayed in Shah Alam and I stayed at my parents in UKM. I don’t know why the MARA people actually called him at his house instead of me. Nevertheless, he told me that a MARA person called saying that I get to fly. I did not believe him. Who would, knowing Udin. Hehe.. I can’t really recall what happen next but, I assure you, the moment MARA called to tell the news, my days flew faster than ever. It seems like only minutes yet it was actually days gone by. Getting to further my studies in UK was totally unexpected. Furthermore, I was already doing my first year in UKM. Thus, who would have thought. Besides, I was already engage to my hubby and we planned to get married in December. Well, things happen for a reason, right? Hehe..
Of course I was all excited and happy but also jittery. I remember, I was lucky to bumped into a woman in MARA office after signing the agreement letter. She then told me that her daughter is as well studying in Manchester and she gave her phone number so, I would be able to call her daughter and get contact numbers of her daughter’s friend since her daughter won’t be going back just yet. Her daughter’s name was Ain. Gave Ain a call that night and she happily gave me a number for me to contact. It was her guy friend, ‘Senyum’ (tell you the truth I don’t think I even know his real name.. Hehe)
I called Senyum that night itself to ask for his favor and I was really thankful because he said he wouldn’t mind fetching me at the train station. Thanks a lot, Senyum.
The day has come …..
Finally, the day has come. It was Saturday night in September, all my good friends came to bid farewell. I have mixed feelings. It is all jumbled up inside me. I was thrilled to get on the plane plus sad leaving my families, fiancee and friends behind. Shook hands, hugs and kisses to everybody. It’s time for me to board myself. With a feeble smile, I walked in.
All alone …
The moment I passed the immigration desk, I know I am all alone and it is a whole new world/journey ahead of me. There’s no turning back. I kept convincing myself that there’s nothing to be afraid of and I just have to be strong for my coming endeavors. Nobody really knows how I really felt inside. I get on the plane. I got the window seat. I looked out in total silence. Tears streaming down my face. *sigh*
Manchester Airport…
I was supposed to meet up with Senyum at the Manchester Train Station, hehe.. I was fortunate to be able to get my ways there. Arrived at the Manchester Train Station, I saw a long-haired Malay guy and although, I have never met this Senyum guy, I know that it was him. There are actually a couple of Malay guys at the train station. Somehow, my instinct tells me that this Hang Jebat look kind of guy is the person I’m looking for.
After the brief introduction, he brought me to his house. He introduced to his housemates. He let me used his room to rest myself. Out of the blue, his cell phone rings and to my surprised the call came from my father… hahaha.. What a shocked!! My father called Senyum to ask whether I have reach Manchester? Hmmpphh.. Hehe.. So, that was my first phone conversation with them from UK.
Yupp.. That was it. I landed Manchester safely and also in safe hands… hehe.. even though, I don’t know this guy.. But, the fetching-me-up thingy have brought us together and closer and we became best friends instantly. Although, I might have to add… after few incidents, we became apart and I became best friends with his housemates till now. Hmmpphh… having said that, I think it’s been awhile that I contacted my ever ‘best friend’…Amir Hamzah Mamat. Miss ya!!!!
