I have got to know that I have to work in Singapore for 2 consecutive months last Thursday. However, it was ONLY confirmed Friday evening and I ONLY get the tickets, Saturday morning. Can you see how AD-HOC it is?
Anyways, I had no idea, whatsoever on what is my task would be in Singapore. The one thing that I know, was to report myself at client’s place by 11:30am.
The client was DFS Galleria. I arrived on time and I was brought up to meet with the CTO and another gentleman, I think he would probably be the Application Head or something. Sorry, Richard.
To cut the story short, Richard told me that he was from Manchester, thus he was kind of interested when he got to know that I studied in Manchester. The next expecting question was which team do I support Man U or Man City? I was like, erk.. I am not really a football fan but I think I am more towards ‘Red Devils’ and he was, as expected supported Man City. Yupp, most of the time local people will support Man City. Then, we continue on talking and I told him that I even delivered my daughter in Manchester at St. Mary’s Hospital and again, he was born at the same place but of course, 40 years earlier as Mr. Visa would put it ;).
Richard then started to explain to me on the job, more of the general and on higher level. As he put in plain words all the details, he did mention the vendor’s name and I happen to have worked with the same vendor few years back.
While having the discussion, the CTO then agreed to call upon the guy from the vendor to join us so that he would be able to describe the whole thing much better. Suddenly, there’s a knock on the door and the CTO came in with the guy. Richard stood up to introduce me with the vendor guy.
My jaws dropped. Richard and Mr. Visa have not got the chance to make the attempt of introducing us, when both the guy from the vendor side and I already shook hands with each other. Gosh! What a small world? He is the exact same guy who I worked with in my last project!!! We were so happy to see each other and we abruptly forgotten the existence of Richard and Mr. Visa. Hahaha… Both of them were pleased and they joked, that they’ll leave the room to us and let us get ourselves re-united. Funny, huh! Oh yes, his name is AMIT.
Amit totally didn’t expect it to be me because he assumes that it would be another Indian guy reason being my company is Indian based. So, when he saw me, he was very pleased. He was really glad because he didn’t have to waste his time to get to know me then only starts to handover. At least, we have saved few days on that. Heheh… well, so do I. The feeling is vice versa.
So, isn’t that shocking??? It was definitely shocking for me!
